Locality
Bridport is located 91kms north-east or approximately one hour’s drive from Launceston, on the southern end of Anderson Bay, overlooking Bass Strait. Bridport is an attractive holiday town which is particularly noted for excellent sea and river fishing, swimming and beach facilities and its family-friendly holiday atmosphere.
About 15 minutes from Bridport is Scottsdale, the largest town in the region and home of the Forest Eco Centre. On the way to Scottsdale is the turn off to Bridestowe Estate Lavender Farm, the oldest and largest lavender farm in the southern hemisphere. Guided tours operate during harvesting in December and January, although you can visit any time of the year and indulge in the lavender ice-cream from the café.
Just two minutes’ drive from the unit, is the world renowned Barnbougle Dunes golf course, one of the top 50 golf courses in the world. Continuing east is the ghost town of Waterhouse; once a flourishing gold-rush town, it is now surrounded by extensive sand dunes. Just off the coast is Waterhouse Island. |
