Locality

Miena is a small fishing village on the shores of the Great Lake. The Great Lake is the highest and second largest freshwater lake in Australia. The principal appeal of this region is fishing, particularly trout fishing. However, Miena is also a great place to base yourself if you are interested in bushwalking.

Less than an hour away is Lake St Clair; an area that provides a variety of bushwalks suitable for all, from the gentle Lake Walk at Cynthia Bay, to the world famous Overland Track, a six-day, 65km trek from Cradle Mountain to Lake St Clair. The shores of the Great Lake are also a great place to walk.

The Great Lake is located in the heart of Tasmania and is a remote and beautiful area. Among the natural wonders nearby to the Great Lake is the world-famous Cradle Mountain, just a two-hour drive from the home. This area is also at the heart of the Tasmanian Hydro scheme. Indeed the Great Lake itself is one of the largest reservoirs for Hydro Tasmania.
